The Lehigh Valley Phantoms needed a big game from Cal Petersen to stave off elimination in game 3, and they got it from him. He made 22 blistering saves, as the Phantoms defeated the Hershey Bears 2-0.

A team like the Phantoms rallies around one another using special teams as their fuel for the fire. They used two power play goals to defeat the Bears, one by Emil Andrea and the other by Olle Lycksell. For his efforts, Lycksell registered one goal and one assist in the victory.

The Phantoms Penalty Kill was phenomenal on this night. They happened to kill a four-minute double minor at one point, and that was led by goaltending by Petersen.

Petersen was very decisive on this night. He made some tough saves, while sprawling from one end of the crease to the other. Petersen also flashed some leather at certain points to make some good glove saves.

Of course, the Phantoms will look to stave off elimination once again on Saturday night at the PPL Center.

Samuel Ersson

Ersson will represent Team Sweden at the World Championships here in a few weeks. The writing was on the wall for such, and it was a no-brainer. Ersson told the media edit his exit interview that he would accept this nomination if it came forth to him.

The Swedish netminder in Ersson struggled early in the season with momentum saves, that would eventually turn the page on the game in the Flyers favor. Since then, Ersson was a stone wall for the most part, with some struggles at times, in large part due to the workload.

Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella noticed this, and used him more effectively down the stretch. Ersson was pretty impressive with his rebound control, and he made timely saves, as well. He moves laterally from post to post well, and Ersson even donned a new goalie mask late in the season.
