And the hits just keep on pouring in due to Covid-19. Today the AHL announced a new target date of February 5, 2021 as a start date to begin the season. Further details will be provided as the information is released.

This may have a trickle-down effect to the NHL, and in particular the Philadelphia Flyers. Will NHL rosters now be expanded because of the late start to the AHL season (To include the likes of Morgan Frost, Yegor Zamula, Carsen Twarynski, David KaÅ¡e, Connor Bunnaman, German Rubtsov, Tanner Laczynski, Wade Allison, Linus Sandin, Maksim Sushko, and let’s not forget that Sam Morin was going to go to Lehigh too for conditioning)? This is a possibility, that is if indeed the AHL season does in fact go on as expected.

Hockey is a spectator sport. If there are no-to minimal fans in the stands. The AHL is just not lucrative enough to sustain that particular loss of revenue. There are lots of overhead costs associated with running a season, and fans of course offset the majority of these costs with parking, merchandise sales, food and beverage sales.

This is not an ideal situation for the NHL or AHL. What once seemed as optimism for the season to begin in the AHL, it’s looking dark and gloomy at the moment. Hopefully the stormy seas will settle sooner rather than later.
