The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the most interesting team in the NHL going into next season. However, it doesnt seem like everyone has caught onto that. Currently, the Flyers boast one of the deepest teams in the NHL and do not find themselves in a position desperate for moves, but rather one that gives them leverage over most of their trading partners. As we approach the 2020 NHL Draft and free agency, GM Chuck Fletcher, has a wide variety of options to look at moving forward. Even without being aggressive, with all of the young talent in their early 20’s and a slew of talented vets, the Flyers are going to get better organically. The question is, what can Fletcher do to speed that up? Is it a big move in the offseason? Or maybe the Flyers stay patient till the trade deadline?

No matter what happens, the return of Oskar Lindblom and Nolan Patrick are pivotal to the plans moving forward. With a complete team the Flyers are still capable of competing against any team in the NHL, it’s about growing together and evolving together…Let’s just hope Fletcher can add a boost along the way. Giroux is not anywhere close to being an all star any longer and he looked lost in the playoffs. If he hadn’t gotten lucky by tipping in his only goal, he would have been a zero contribution on the ice. You don’t pay a player $8M a year to win 59 out of 100 faceoffs. Buy Giroux out and bring up Morgan Frost to replace him. Frost may be young, but it’s time to look at the future and move forward. Giroux is in decline. Buy the last two years of of Giroux’s contract out That would also allow the Flyers to protect another player in the Seattle expansion draft instead of Giroux, who has a NMC and must be protected.

James van Reimsdyk is a nice guy, but he can’t play a 200 foot foot game. He makes $7M a year and still has 3 years left on his contract. His game is in decline, similar to Giroux’s. I don’t think JVR can be traded without giving a team a prized young player, or a high draft pick, so buy JVR out too. Gregg Lorenz, Bucks County Pa
