Nick Seeler is an asset, and believe it or not is a warrior. Nick Seeler was signed by Chuck Fletcher, and ironically enough Fletcher actually drafted him back in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft with the Minnesota Wild’s 5th round pick. Seeler has become a mainstay on the backend for the orange and black, and he is a blocking machine for the Flyers.

Yesterday was a good day as Seeler signed an extension with the orange and black for 4 years, and the AAV will be $2.7 million ($10.8 million). This is a great deal for both him and the Flyers, “Not sure if I wanted to continue playing and here we are today. I couldn’t be happier to stay in Philadelphia. New management coming in, Torts, and this group…I feel comfortable and respected,” Seeler said today.

“We have a great group of young talent coming up. If they need my advice, I’ll give it.” – Nick Seeler said via Zoom on 3-7-24

John Tortorella spoke in emphatically about Seeler this past Saturday, “We are not looking to trade Seels,” said Tortorella. “He’s a huge part of the competitiveness of the room, that brings the room together. He’s one of the true competitors that I’ve ever coached, as far as how he handled himself.” Ironically enough Seeler spoke very highly of Tortorella today. He said between Tortorella and management are two reasons he elected to re-sign with Philly.

Seeler originally inked a one-year two-way contract worth up to $750,000 back on July 28th, 2021. He may not be the the flashiest, big-name type of signing that catches most people’s attention, but Seeler gets the job done, “The willingness, the one thing to block the shot. There is some technique to it, move your head out of the way or face, you hope it hits the shin pad, but a lot of times it hits something that hurts a little bit more (Laughing),” Nick Seeler says of blocking shots in an interview with Jamey Baskow at the outdoor game practice. “That’s the way we have to play, that’s a big thing of Torts’s message, whether it’s a Forward or a D.”

Nick Seeler is a knowledgeable, a dedicated 30-year-old left-hand-shot defender who is 6’2 and weighs in at 201 pounds. He hails from Eden Prairie, Minnesota where he learned to play the game the right way. Seeler is a hard-nosed player that takes plays a more physical game. He sacrifices his body while laying a big check, to block a shot, or throwing his hands to come to the aid of one of his teammates. Seeler has become a fan favorite for those reasons listed above.

It should come as no shock that the Flyers are trying to re-sign Seeler. Each team tries to find a Nick Seeler, but at times they are hard to come by. He’s well liked in the locker room, and he may be too influential to part ways with someone that well liked. Yes, the Flyers are in the midst of a rebuild, but they still have a team to develop and grow, grow together as a unit, learning to play the game the right way. That’s what Nick teaches.

He is part of the glue of the locker room, “I’ve always had family and loved ones to lean on,” Seeler said. Seeler also said he’s week to week and wishes he could be with the boys right now, “It got me in a tough spot.”

Low and behold he has a contract friendly deal, and Seeler will make Philadelphia home for the next four years at least. Seeler’s contract also came with a no trade clause for the next two years.

Ryan Johansen

Today Johansen cleared waivers and he will head to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Johansen had an $8 million cap hit, but Nashville retained 50% of his salary when he was traded to Colorado, so he has a $4 million cap hit for the Flyers.
