Reading, PA – OH YEAH! The Royals hold off K-Wings for a big 5-3 Saturday night win. Tag Bertuzzi found twine twice, 4 goals now in his first 2 games as a Royal. Nolan Maier started between the pipes for Reading, he came up huge. Maier made 38 saves on the 41 Kalamazoo shots he faced.

RECAP

Advantage Royals after 20 minutes of play in downtown Reading. Brownie, Matt Brown scored the Royals’ lone goal in the period. Brown’s wicked wrister came late in the frame at 18:04. Maier faced 12 Wings shots but stopped all 12.

In an eventful second period, each team netted two in the frame. Kalamazoo had all the momentum early scoring twice twenty-three seconds apart just over 5 minutes in. Justin Taylor notched the first Kalamazoo tally, a redirection that went five-hole at 5:12. Collin Adams scored the second tally, his fourth of the season a glove-side wrister at 5:35. Following the goal Reading seemed to gain momentum, playing more disciplined and smarter hockey. On a delayed penalty with the extra attacker out, Tag Bertuzzi wristed a shot blocker side to knot things back up at 2. Over a minute and a half later, Devon Paliani put Reading back on top with a rebound tuck-in, a power play tally at 11:45. Biggest period for the RoyBoys, with 19 shots in the frame.

Reading for the third period was outshot, 14-4 on the 4 shots they scored 2 goals. Joseph Nardi early in the frame netted the ultimate game-winner with a top-shelf finish on a beautiful feed from Brown at 1:34. Ty Glover made things interesting late, a tally with just under 2 minutes to play made it 4-3. Tag Bertuzzi capped off the win 40 seconds later, with an empty netter at 18:45.

Following the game a fight ensued, Devon Paliani dropped the mitts with Kalamazoo’s Cooper Walker. Per the ECHL rule book, Paliani and Walker could be fined or suspended for their actions fighting other than periods of the game.

Matt Brown had a big night for Reading. Brown was awarded the first star because he picked up two helpers along with a goal, Saturday night.

I firmly believe Joseph Nardi can play with anyone, he picked up a two-point night. He tallied the game-winner along with a helper on the Paliani tally.

The Royals’ power play went 1-for-6 on the night, and Kalamazoo held to 0-for-6 a great PK for Reading tonight.

Reading leaves Tuesday for a mid-week battle against division rival, Adirondack. The puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday. Reading then heads back home for two straight against the Lions.
