the Flyers have signaled they’ll be patient with Jett Luchanko as he recovers from a lingering core/lower-body injury and transitions into full-time pro hockey.

Luuchanko, the Flyers’ 2024 first-round pick (13th overall), dealt with a nagging issue (described as lower-body/groin/core) that had bothered him for about 1.5–2 years. He missed the on-ice portion of Developmental Camp in late June 2026 (the second straight year for that camp) after undergoing a procedure on his core.
Organization officials, including Director of Player Development Riley Armstrong and Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr, said he was expected to resume skating within a week or so and be ready for the rest of the offseason and training camp. Luchanko himself described it as “dealt with” and said it wouldn’t disrupt his broader summer training.

The Flyers have repeatedly framed his development with a long-term lens rather than short-term pressure:
- Luchanko made the NHL roster out of camp in both 2024–25 and 2025–26 but played only limited games each time (four per season early on) before returning to the OHL for bigger minutes and a more prominent role. General Manager Danny Brière has emphasized wanting him in high-minute situations to build confidence and assertiveness rather than keeping him as a depth/extra forward.
- Flahr has publicly expressed “lots of faith” in Luchanko’s speed and skill set and noted the value of a full, healthy summer of proper training.
- Commentators and junior coaches have echoed the “long game” approach, noting that early NHL exposure can inflate expectations and that patience is needed while he adds offensive consistency (he has shown strong skating, motor, and two-way details but limited goal-scoring so far at higher levels).
Heading into the 2026–27 season (his first as a full-time pro after aging out of the OHL), he is widely expected to begin with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms and only stick in the NHL if he forces the issue as one of the top 12 forwards. The injury history is viewed as a contributing factor to some of the offensive ups-and-downs, so a clean bill of health is seen as a key variable.
In short, the organization is treating this as a development and recovery process rather than a make-or-break situation right away.
