Joel Farabee was one of the Flyers top prospects last year, that’s a fact. The expectations were high at the start of the season for the 19-year-old phenom, and were only heightened by a strong training camp and preseason. Many fans seemed to think he would start the season in the NHL, but newly appointed Head Coach Alain Vigneault said otherwise. Farabee was recalled to the big club early in the season, and since his call-up he has proven to be a positive asset for the team.

Although, his offense was just as expected, Farabee’s defense proved to be a strength. He was a 200ft player in his previous years, posting no negative total +/- in any previous seasons; but defense usually takes longer to grow at the NHL level. “The older guys have been good at showing me little things to learn everyday,” said Farabee,The games a little quicker, a little more skilled, but it’s been a great experience so far.” Farabee further credited teammate Sean Couturier in instrumental to his growth on defense, “I try to lead by example, play the right way,Couturier said,If every they need help or tips or whatever I try to help them in any way I can.” According to Farabee, Couturier is a “Great example, and is, One of the best two-way players.”

Farabee further credits Chris Stewart, and some other Veteran leaders have also been “Awesome.” “He’s (Chris Stewart) just a good thing to have in the locker room, and a lot of guys are that way,” Farabee said, We’re a pretty tight team here, so I think that helps us a lot in games.”

The Flyers will need all the help they can get from the youngster, as they will ask Farabee to play big minutes down the stretch, at both even strength and the Penalty Kill. Farabee seems to be poised to continue to grow, and become a star for the orange and black for years to come.
