The big thing about rookie camp are camp invites. Some people know little about these players, as some fans may just attention to the AHL/NHL ranks of the sport, rather than the lower ranks (Juniors, overseas). So here is a little information about the six camp invites to Flyers Rookie Camp this season, and there are some that are more familiar with others. Here is a good breakdown of the six camp invites to Rookie Camp.

Matt Brown

Brown hails from Boston University. He is a scoring threat when he is on the ice. At one point last season, but finished second on the team in points to Lane Hutson with 47. Moreover, Brown was tied for the team lead with 16 goals, and second on the team in assists with 31.

“He drives our offense with his speed,” said first-year head coach Jay Pandolfo of Brown following a game last season. Brown could very well earn an AHL contract with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms if he has a successful Rookie and Training Camp.

Jonathan Fauchan

Fauchan went undrafted at the 2023 NHL Draft, and it has to be his size. Fauchan can score with the best of them, as he possesses good speed and creativity. He is an effective player 5-on-5, but he stands at 5’10 and weighs 170 pounds.

He finally figured things out during his fourth season in the “Q” QMJHL. Fauchan earned a career year for the Blaineville-Broisbiand Armada while netting 25 goals and registering 40 assists in 53 games played. Look for Fauchan to try and earn an ELC (Entry-Level-Contract).

Jacob Gaucher

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms anno9unced on October 3, 2022 the two-year, two-way deal of Jacob Gaucher. Gaucher spent the majority of last season with the Reading Royals. However, he did play against the New York Rangers last season in the rookie series.

Gaucher, 21, is a right-handed shooting center from Longeuil, PQ. He became a reliable catalyst for the Royals in 2022-23 by netting 22 goals and registering 39 assists in 71 games played. Gaucher is s stocky Center standing at 6’3, so he provides down the middle, and he is not a bad skater to boot.

Brendan Furry

Furry served as a team captain in 2022-23 for Minnesota State University. Furry signed a two-year AHL with the Phantoms at the conclusion of the NCAA season.

Over the course of Furry’s three-year career with Minnesota State, Furry appeared finished with 27 goals and 58 assists in 111 games played. Look for him to try and make an impression to the Flyers top brass that he deserves a shot in this league.

Sam Sedley

Sedley missed all of his draft eligibility year when the OHL season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

A right-handed defenseman in Sedley managed to tally 42 points in 64 games in 2021-22, but he remained undrafted. He did manage to register more points than a second round pick from the OHL in Artyom Grushnikov, but Sedley only stands at 5’10 so maybe some NHL teams were turned off by his lack of size. He is very good off the rush, using creativity to sneak down the middle between players.

Nolan Maier

Reading Royals and Phantoms fans know Nolan quite well. He had a phenomenal season in 2022-23 for both the Royals and Phantoms.

Maier went 12-8-3, with a 2.89 GAA, and a .892 Save Percentage for the Royals, while seeing call-ups with the Phantoms at times. These numbers became impressive because of such, and Maier stood on his head at times for the Royals.

With the Phantoms, Maier on multiple occasions was the best player on the ice. He managed to finish with a 5-2-2 record, with a 2.85 GAA, and a .886 Save Percentage. Maier will be given every shot to win at the very least a backup goaltending role with the Phantoms this season, as Felix Sandström, Cal Petersen, and Samuel Ersson will vie for the backup role to Carter Hart this season.
