“If it was easy everyone would do it,” that’s the motto that Flyers top prospect Cutter Gauthier lives by. A goal scorer is blossoming at Boston College, and his name is Cutter Gauthier. Gauthier is a fan favorite already and he has yet to play in one game for the Flyers, “If it was easy everyone would do it. I’ve missed out on a lot of my high school kid things due to the passion of the game, but it’s paid off,” says Gauthier.

“If making the NHL was so easy every hockey player would do it, but that’s not reality. You have to work hard taking no days off because if you don’t there’s another kid that will do it.” Cutter Gauthier said to Jamey Baskow

Gauthier, 18, stands at 6’2 and weighs 189 pounds. Not only is this a solid build for not only a pro hockey player, but this gives the Flyers much needed size down the middle in the future. At first glance, he’s a versatile player that can play both Wing and Center. He has played mainly Center for the Boston College Eagles this season, but he reveals that he will play any position that best suits what the coaches needs, “Wherever it gives the team the best shot at winning,” Gauthier said.

“They (The Flyers) like me at Center and want me to play that position. Like I said before whatever the coaches want me to do to help the team win. I’m always trying to be a great guy off the ice.”

Gauthier was born in Sweden. His father, Sean Gauthier was a goalie in the Swedish Elite League and for the Reading Royals, so it’s kind of shocking he has become a Power Forward. The first name Cutter came from a Swedish cookbook, yup a cook book as Cutter exclaimed after he was drafted by the orange and black. For his efforts, he is killing it for the Boston College Men’s Hockey Team this season, as he has netted 14 goals and 14 assists in 26 games played. He’s on fire, and burning out the bulb to the goal lamp Gauthier’s scoring that much, “Whatever it takes to help the team win. Just want to give versatility to my coaches to give them a winning lineup. I’ve always preached to the coaches whatever they want me to do,” Gauthier says.

“Not really sure right now,” on whether Gauthier will be one and done in the NCAA and sign with the Flyers. “We have a few games left before the tournament, and it depends on how well we go. I haven’t really thought about that right now, just focusing on helping the team win. When that day comes I will sit down with my family and talk with the Flyers to see what’s best for my development,” Gauthier said.

“I don’t want to be a flash in the pan, I want to stick hopefully with the Flyers.” Cutter Gauthier said to Jamey Baskow

The young Gauthier calls Michigan home now after living in Arizona and being from Sweden. He’s just a confident hockey player as he drives the play up the ice. He also is good with breakouts for the Eagles.

Believe it or not Gauthier is a communications major, as a lot of freshman were signing up for this major he stated to me. He also thought this would be efit his rigorous hockey schedule the most. Maybe all those good chocolate croissants are giving him fuel for the season as he said laughing, “Chocolate Croissants, (Laughing), I think it’s pretty solid and I highly recommend it.”

A young 19-year-old in Gauthier just continues to score. He tallied another goal this past weekend as Gauthier hasn’t lost a stride since returning to the team from the WJC Tournament. He played on the Wing for the WJC Tournament, while he plays the Center position for Boston College, “Obviously winning a medal at such a high stage is a huge honor. It was super fast and a great experience,” says Gauthier.

“Anytime you put your country’s colors on at such a high stage it’s a huge honor, especially the world juniors. It honestly felt like a dream it went away in the blank of an eye. It feels like it was yesterday, but time flies,” Gauthier said when explaining his unique World Junior experience with winning a Bronze Medal for Team USA.

Gauthier was the guy the Flyers wanted from day one, they love his shot, size, and his skating abilities for being a more sizeable prospect in the pipeline. They love what he can eventually become, especially with his candidness to shoot the puck. The Flyers are now targeting shoot-first players, and it’s become evident with the past two drafts. For instance, Tyson Foerster’s best ability is his shot, while Samu Tuomaala, although struggling in the Liiga League, is a first shot mentality player. The Flyers are really trying to find a sniper(s) to wreak havoc on their opponents in the future.

A young Gauthier’s confidence is obviously extremely high right now with how successful he has been at the NCAA level thus far. He mentioned time and time again after getting drafted the amount of work he will put in to eventually don a Flyers sweater, and he got some tips from Joel Farabee at Flyers Developmental Camp this past Summer:

“Joel has done a really good job representing the Flyers. He helped me in the summer of Developmental camp. He’s a great guy, taught me the ways to kind of give me an inside scoop of what the Flyers have to offer. It’s pretty cool to see his determination.” – Cutter Gauthier said to Jamey Baskow on Joel Farabee

Oskar Lindblom is still important so many players, and even Cutter hasn’t forgotten all that Lindblom has been through, “I’ve personally never met anyone to come back from that, and battle through that. It was awesome to see him come back (He said while pausing, you can tell this meant a lot to him).”

Lastly, Gauthier only knows one word in Swedish, Kaka, which means cookie.
