Philadelphia Flyers New Era

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms scored a big victory last night 3-2 in overtime to the Charlotte Checkers. Ronnie Attard netted the game winning goal, and it sent the Phantoms and their proud fans home happy.

Cooper Marody continues his stellar play on the season, and he registered three apples for his efforts last night. Marody now has five goals, and 15 assists (20P) in 24 games played. Marody just looks confident and poised this season, and he is becoming a leader inside that locker room. Younger players need to look up to somebody, and Marody is filling that void.

Samu Tuomaala scored the game tying goal that sent the game into overtime last night in the third period. Tuomaala continues to showcase himself as being mentioned again, in so far as, being a quality prospect within the Flyers organization. It appeared he wasn’t after thought after struggling the past few seasons in Finland. For his efforts, Tuomaala is having an excellent pro season, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes his NHL Debut at some point if he keeps this up.

Emil Andrae registered one goal and one assist last night. His first goal was a beauty, and it really shows the confidence he’s had all season. He is the Phantoms top defensive prospect for a reason, and he continues to get bigger and stronger down on the farm. Andrae now has two goals and six assists in 15 games played this season. For those that forget, he was up with the Flyers to start this first month of the season. He’s coming along nicely, as he had to acclimate himself to Lehigh.

Denver Barkey

There is no doubting that Flyers’ Prospect Denver Barkey is good at the sport of hockey. He was honored to be selected by Team Canada for a preliminary camp for the upcoming WJC Tournament. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and unfortunately he was cut from the .

Denver, on the other hand, said he used to model his game after Patrick Kane, but Brayden Point, as well, “Smaller (Brayden Point), but he’s good in the corners. I’m a smaller guy. I’m going to need to be strong on my feet to win puck battles.” The main thing that Barkey wants to do is remain consistent. Consistency will play a huge part of moving up to the next level, and he will continue to work on that, of course get bigger and stronger.

One thing that cannot be understated about Barkey is energy. He brings energy and it fuses their teammates with such. Barkey is usually in the right spot to pot a big goal, or he makes the right play that eventually develops into a goal. He will be eligible for the WJC next year, and he still could make Team Canada for the upcoming WJC Tournament if Zach Benson cannot play due to NHL obligations.

Oliver Bonk

Bonk has netted six goals and registered 22 assists in 27 games played, and with his great season he was selected as a participant at Team Canada’s preliminary selection camp for the upcoming WJC Tournament.

The good news is Bonk was officially selected today to be a member of Team Canada for the upcoming WJC Tournament. Bonk, I’m sure is thrilled for this honor.

A young 18-year-old in Bonk, is a Right-Handed defenseman and just so happens to be a solid skating defenseman. They needed a solid skating defenseman, and one way to do it was by drafting one. Bonk has a ton of skill that can stifle players at the Blue line, and lead the Flyers of the ice the other way. As mentioned, he is a good skating Defenseman and these type of Defensemen don’t come along very often.

Bonk has played well in the two preliminary games, leading up to the selection for the upcoming of the WJC Tournament. He has stifled opponents trying to enter the zone, as well as, has broken up plays using his stick. Bonk just appears to be in the right position top make the play. Let’s see how does in a few weeks, when the tournament gets underway on December 26, 2023.

Cutter Gauthier

Gauthier decided to return to Boston College for his Sophomore season in 2023-24, which ultimately turned out to be a good move for his development. Now he will represent Team USA for the preliminary training camp that opens today, to which he will, yes he will, make the team easily.

Gauthier is currently tied for 8th in the NCAA in scoring with 23 points, 12 goals and eight assists. It comes as no shock that he would be selected for this particular camp, however, Gauthier is no stranger to Team USA either.

This is a great experience for this young man, especially playing against some other Grade “A” prospects. Regardless, of how many games he plays in, or how much ice time he receives. Anytime a prospect plays in an organized tournament setting, it could only help them in the future with playoff hockey. He should make Team USA with no problem.

Alex Čiernik

Čiernik stands at 5’10 and weighs 179 pounds. He is a left winger who played in HockeyAllsvenskan last season amongst men. He registered six points in 10 games for Vasterviks IK.

This young 18-year-old in Čiernik has registered four goals and eight assists in 19 games played this season, after a brief slow start to the season. Ciernik has distinct offensive abilities to find the scoring areas on the ice. He uses his speed to create plays both offensively and defensively.

For his efforts, he has been named to Team Slovakia for the upcoming WJC Tournament. This is a good experience for the young Winger that was drafted by the Flyers in 2023. He has missed the last two weeks with a concussion, but hopefully he recovers to play in the tournament. Let’s see how he relishes the moment in a few weeks if he plays.
