Denver Barkey, Alex Bump, and Porter Martone are operating on a completely different level from most of the kids at rookie camp, and they showed it this past weekend in the Rookie Series against the Rangers prospects.Flyers swept the series 2-0:
- Saturday (3-2 win): Alex Bump stood out with a goal and an assist. He was driving play with his speed, puck skills, and ability to create — basically the same stuff that got him NHL time last year.
- Sunday (4-1 win): Denver Barkey (wearing the “C”) scored the opening goal on a nice rush and later set up Porter Martone for an empty-netter. Martone was his usual high-motor, edge-y self, finished with a goal and an assist, and even got into some post-whistle stuff.
They each only played one game (smart load management), but they looked like NHL players dominating a prospect series — which is exactly what you’d expect after last season’s playoff experience. Barkey’s motor, Bump’s skill, and Martone’s compete level were the clear standouts among the group that already has real NHL mileage.
They’re basically there now more as leaders and examples for the true rookies than as guys still trying to prove they belong. Main camp starts later this week — these three should be locks for opening night (or very close to it).
