Porter Martone, Denver Barkey, Alex Bump, Jett Luchanko, Brek Liske, Maksim Sokolovskii, and others stood out as the Flyers rookies/prospects swept a two-game Rookie Series against the Rangers at PPL Center in Allentown (Sept. 12–13, 2026).
Game 1 (Saturday): Flyers 3–2, Alex Bump led the charge with the game-winning goal late in the third (set up by a strong neutral-zone play from Jett Luchanko). Cole Knuble and Matthew Gard also scored. The Bump-Luchanko-Knuble line drove play effectively.
Carson Bjarnason was solid in net (allowed two power-play goals but was otherwise unflappable). Other positives included Noah Powell and Alex Ciernik (assists on the opener), plus physical and assertive play from defensemen like Maksim Sokolovskii, Brek Liske (comfortable running the point on the power play), Spencer Gill, and others. Ilya Pautov also flashed creativity.
Game 2 (Sunday): Flyers 4–1, Porter Martone (1 goal, 1 assist) and Denver Barkey (1 goal, 1 assist) each had multi-point nights. Barkey opened the scoring on a nice feed from Oliver Bonk (with Luchanko starting the sequence). Brek Liske scored to restore the lead late in the second (assisted by Spencer Gill and Martone). Noah Powell and Martone added empty-netters.
Martone drew particular praise for his leadership and maturity: he took accountability after a turnover that led to a Rangers goal (apologizing to goalie Marek Sklenicka), stood up for Barkey after a big hit, and generally set a strong tone. Luchanko had a pair of helpers across the weekend and was noted for subtle, high-IQ plays. Powell was a noticeable pest (including dropping the gloves). Oliver Bonk, Maksim Sokolovskii, and others contributed positively.
The series highlighted several NHL-tested or high-upside players (Martone, Barkey, Bump, Luchanko, Bonk) alongside newer faces from recent drafts, with the group looking sharp overall in the sweep.
