Bumps in the road happen for everyone, whether it’s at work or at home. That’s just part of life. Everyone will have a bump in the road at some point or another, and athletes are no different. They are humans too, it’s the nature of the business. Fortunately, Hart and the Flyers continue to fight through “Speed” bumps, as they are enduring a nine game losing streak at the moment. However, believe it or not Hart has played well and has given his team a shot on most nights, including yesterday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers were booed off the ice after the second period of play, but the boos were not for Carter Hart.

Hart got off to a great start to the season, with his Goals Against Average well under two, and his Save Percentage was well over a .920, as well. Now the orange and black and Hart are in the midst of a nine game losing streak, and none of that fault lies on Hart nor Felix Sandström.

How many times have we heard, “Hart stands on his head for us. Hartsy’s making some big saves,” from Scott Laughton, or “He bailed us out a few times. That always helps,”  from Kevin Hayes. These are some comments that give a Goaltender confidence, and makes them want to perform better.

Yesterday was not on Carter Hart, and for some reason the Flyers started off well through the first five minutes of the first period. However, they lost energy and were lethargic throughout the next period and a half. This just can’t happen when the team is playing their interstate rivals, who are far better than them. The Pittsburgh Penguins have more talent than the young Flyers team.

“No, no it wasn’t Carter, not about Carter,” Tortorella said following the game. He is correct, Hart was hung out to dry, while making saves on 2-on-1’s or some point blank shots within the slot.

Hart deserves better. Yes, the team is decimated with injuries at the moment, especially up front, however, they can play the right way. If the team played the right way and stopped with the self-inflicting wounds with turnovers, then this team may not being predicament they are now. Let’s hope they get their acts together, and are able to right the ship against the New York Islanders tonight at 730pm.

  1. That ‘clinic’ we saw on display against the Pens yesterday clearly showed the directions these teams are going.

The Pens draft players and develop them with the intent of breaking into the NHL. The Flyers draft PROJECTS…many of whom, when called upon, look out of place on the ice and are not NHL-ready; the others become career minor leaguers, many of whom will never see the NHL.

Hart played well…the rest of the team, a different story. We knew this would happen, with yet again, another season of inactivity.

Someone needs to be held accountable for this mess…and it’s NOT Torts.

    1. Maybe the flyer fans need to stop paying the front office peeps pay checks. As long is their is a fan in the stands they fell they are justified in their lack of ability to put a decent hockey team on the ice. This is flyer fans fault for supporting a team that they do nothing but cry about (which is justified) as this is not even a AHL level team. The only thing I have seen more miss managed then the flyers the several tears has been the US under the current regime. Chuck Fletcher is the Biden of hockey.
