What to do? What to do? What to do? These thoughts have to be going through General Manager of the Flyers Chuck Fletcher’s mind night after night these past few months. Moreover, I’m pretty certain every Flyers fan and their mother is thinking the same thing now. The season had a feeling of “It’s all over duh-duh-duh-da-da-da. It’s all over” back in March. Fletcher and the Flyers were really building something special here, and the hope was a parade down Broad Street in the coming years. And then boom the inconsistent Flyers returned and underperformed.

The Flyers have to keep their game simple and stop forcing the puck. They have to get off to faster starts, and it’s a must for a successful season. Yes, coming back from the pandemic was tough, and everyone knew it wasn’t going to be easy, however, every team was faced with the same situation. The Flyers need more muscle, and they need to start taking care of the puck. So when a player of Matthew Tkachuk’s caliber is rumored to have asked the Calgary Flames for a trade, one immediately thinks these problems as stated above wouldn’t happen as often with him on the ice. So what would it take to obtain his services?

For starters Travis Konecny would be a no brainer. In addition, the Flyers would have to add one of Travis Sanheim or Philippe Myers, and a first round pick.

So here’s a breakdown of a trade for the Flyers:

Flyers receives: Matthew Tkachuk, and maybe a 6th round pick

Calgary Receives: Travis Sanheim/Philippe Myers (One of), Travis Konecny, 2021 First Round Pick

Of course, Calgary says Tkachuk did not ask for a trade. They want leverage for a trade so it’s smart for them to say “No” he did not say such. Tkachuk is a physical high-end player that skates very well. He will battle for pucks, fight for his teammates, lay a big hit, and is a pure goal scorer the Flyers have craved for years. Tkachuk has posted 110 goals and 168 assists for a total of 278 points in 349 games played, while Konecny has posted 219 points in 349 games played (94 goals, 125 assists).

Tkachuk has a nose for the net, to pair along with his feistiness. He is flat-out an artist in front of the net. Tkachuk is exactly what the Flyers need, they need the feistiness and grittiness. They need the energy he shows on a nightly basis, and it would rub off on the locker room, as well. If he is available Chuck Fletcher has to call for his services.
