After selecting Cameron York in the 2019-2020 NHL Entry Draft, there have been non-stop worry coming from Philadelphia Flyers’ fans that the team made the wrong decision by passing up on the, high scoring prospect, Cole Caufield. Caufield has been lights out in his early development and it has the hockey world thinking he could be the next great undersized forward to grace the NHL’s scoring leaderboards. However, the Flyers’ defensive prospect has had his own incredible start throughout his early career as well. Both players have already made it to the pro game and have shown early flashes of being impact players immediately. Additionally, both players dominated the NCAA and the World Junior Championships that saw Team USA beat a historically talented Canadian Juniors team. Not to forget, it was York that lead the way with being team captain and top defenseman on the team winning a stingy defensive game against a team that had no issues scoring during the tournament’s duration.

While it’s understandable for fan’s to get nervous about the Flyers passing up on the selection of Caufield, it’s important to recognize that the Flyers got their own special player in the process. On this episode of Gritty Rants! I go through why it is important to focus on how the organization has benefited from the selection and not so much on what they missed out on. Both players are poised to be star players in the league and both players should be commended for the stellar start to their NHL careers.
