The Flyers reached the second round of the playoffs (winning a series but losing to Carolina) in what was a strong, unexpected season for a young team. Trevor Zegras had a career year and expressed strong interest in staying long-term in Philadelphia.

Key Highlights from Zegras’ Exit Interview

  • On the season and playoffs: Zegras called it a “weird last couple days” but was “excited for what’s ahead with this team.” He described it as a great learning experience for young players with little-to-no prior playoff experience—learning series play, winning a series, and facing tougher opponents. Zegras noted the difference in style (e.g., more physical vs. Pittsburgh, faster vs. Carolina) and the unique pressure of playoff games.
  • Personal performance and mindset: Overall, Zegras assessed his year positively. He enjoyed the close team environment, which made coming to the rink fun and contributed to success. The Olympic break helped for rest/health. Zegras mentioned a renewed passion for winning after feeling he had lost some drive previously.
  • Role and development: Zegras worked on being a more complete player under coach Rick Tocchet (not just a scorer). He was fine playing wing or center (played more center late season/playoffs) and found value in the experience for battles and space.
  • Contract/Future with Flyers: As a Restricted Free Agent, he was clear: “Personally I would love that. I would love to be here for a long time. I hope that that would happen over the next couple months… I love playing here. I love the fans. I love the group that we have.”
  • Favorite part: Spending time with teammates (e.g., cards, ping pong, meals on the road), which he called the most special aspect.

2025-26 Season Context

Zegras posted career-high numbers in the regular season (roughly 26G, 41A, 67P in 81 GP) and contributed in the playoffs (e.g., 2G, 4A in 10 GP). His resurgence, high-energy style, and fit with the group have made him a fan favorite and a priority for re-signing alongside players like Jamie Drysdale.

As of late March 2026, it was reported that the Flyers and Zegras have started talking about a new deal. They will eventually agree on one, so there Is nothing to worry about Flyers fans.
