After Months of anticipation, the Philadelphia Flyers draft season is finally here. Less than two weeks away from the draft, the Flyers can now really start to dig into the rankings. However, with the looming expansion draft and rumors circling of potential trades, the team could still move their #13 pick in a trade, sacrifice their future and help their team today. With that said, we can only anticipate that the team will draft at the thirteenth spot at this point and that’s what Brent Flahr and his draft team is prepared to do. The Flyers could also opt to trade a top prospect and then draft a younger one to refill the rankings, but nothing is certain right now. All that we know is that the team doesn’t have a single desperate need at the lower levels, but needs to fix the balance of veterans to youth at the NHL level. Expect Fletcher to be aggressive, but not sell the farm in an attempt to right the wrongs of the recent season.

The Draft Analyst, Steve Kournianos, returns again and provides his robust knowledge and experience about prospects going into this year’s NHL Entry Draft. His rankings, while free, are a fantastic source if you want to get to know a draft crop that is separate from the mainstream rankings. With this year’s crazy schedule it, it is wise to find some extra resources rather than just Central Scouting, Elite Prospects, Sportsnet, and others. As Owen Power is still labeled as the top player in the draft, it really is a cluster of a top 15 crop that could see anyone go first overall. This years’ draft lacks a true Franchise player, but it also lacks the visibility of drafts prior the COVID era. Get ready for a lot of shockers as the draft does not seem to have a consistent ranking among any of the top sources, Steve’s included.

On this episode of Gettin Gritty Wit It, I welcome back friend of the show and founder of The Draft Analyst, Steve Kournianos. Steve works tirelessly every season to provide a top notch scouting report on 200+ draft eligible players, while providing Mock Drafts leading up to the Entry Draft. The two of us go through his most recent NHL Mock Draft and review each player one by one. We also go through some of the Flyers’ current prospects in depth and their NHL potential. Check out this latest episode as we go through the Flyers offseason hiatus.
