Matthew Samoskevich is a 5”11 Center from the Chicago Steel of the USHL. He’s a very flashy center, as he’s able to take passes and turn them into gold as he has a quick wrist shot to put all of that together. He’s able to manage space exceptionally well and is able to use his hockey IQ to make plays which are usually one or two steps ahead of the competition. Samoskevich will be attending the University of Michigan next year as he posted 37 points in 36 games with the Steel in 2020-21.

What was the transition from 18U to the USHL like for you?

  • The transition was pretty cool experience for me to go through the guys were much bigger and much faster so it allowed to have a lot of growth in my game just from that.

How would you say your last season was? Is There anything in particular you will work on this off-season?

  • I think that if you look at my numbers it was a pretty mediocre year although the injury didn’t help i felt like my play was really well and didn’t match my numbers.

What type of injury was it that was bothering you?

  • Broke my thumb.

How is it now? Hopefully everything is better!

  • Yeah, no problems now.

What’s something you want to achieve this upcoming year?

  • Win and contribute a good amount of points.

What kind of role do you see yourself playing in the NHL?

  • I feel like I’m gonna be a top six forward on a team and a guy looked upon to put the puck in the net as well as keeping it out.

If you could play with any NHL players from the beginning of the league till now, who would it be?

  • Definitely, Nate MacKinnon he’s one of my favorites and i feel like he’s be pretty cool to learn from since he’s one of the best.

That’s a great pick. Thanks for your time man. I appreciate you and best of luck this year!

  • Thank you very much!
