The NHL Draft is in the rear-view mirror, and what a draft it was for the Flyers. Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher made a trade to move up and snag Zayde Wisdom, and overall the Flyers drafted four Forwards and one Defenseman. With that being said, what do most of these new prospects have in common? Well, they love Philly and were familiar with some famous movies, titles of the team, and some had links to the team before they were drafted.

Tyson Foerster

“Yeah, I’ve actually been to a Flyers game before. My parents took me on a trip when I was younger. I went to see a Flyers game. I don’t remember much about it. I was pretty young. The Flyers, I know they are a gritty team. Like to go against Pittsburgh. That’s pretty much it. I’m pretty excited to get to know more about them.”- Tyson Foerster

Foerster knows the Pittsburgh/Flyers rivalry!!! He did his homework.

Emil Andrae

“One of [my teammates] little brother, Linus Sandin, his little brother Rasmus. Last year, I looked very much [at] him. I want to compare my game after him. He plays an effective game. I also want to play an effective game with great puck movement.”- Emil Andrae

I think Andrae knowing a bit about a Flyers prospect in Linus Sandin will help him transition easier to the Pro level when that time arises.

Zayde Wisdom

“I always knew Philly was in consideration. I play their type of hockey. Big body. The Broad Street Bullies as they’re known. Big body, kind of gritty hockey. They’re always there for me in my mind. I was like maybe these guys. It was never strong or anything like that. I had no clue who I was going to in the draft. No clue who I was going to coming into this. Super excited to hear my name by the Broad Street Bullies for sure.”- Zayde Wisdom

Wisdom knows that the Flyers were formerly called the Broad Street Bullies, and he has a great relationship with former Flyer Wayne Simmonds. What more can one ask for.

Eliott Desnoyers

“When I first think about Philadelphia, I think about the movies. Rocky, I grew up watching them with my brothers and always was a big part of when I was a child. When I think about Philadelphia, I think about Flyers for sure. I’ve always watched Montreal when I was young. I remember watching the tough Flyers and I love how they compete hard and how hard they work every day. It’s great to be drafted there. I think it’s a great organization and so much history for the town. It’s great.”

Duh-duh-da-da-duh, as I’m running up the Art Museum steps in Philadelphia yelling…”Yo Adrian” when I get to the top.

Connor McClennon

“The Under-17s was a great tournament for myself. Obviously our team fell a bit short. Had a good game in the quarters versus the Finns, but for myself, I think I had a good showing. I was put in good situations by my coaching staff. Being able to wear “A” in Winnipeg is a huge honor. Having James Patrick as my coach and having a good relationship, him trusting me to lead our group, is a huge honor.”- Connor McClennon

McClennon’s coach is Nolan Patrick’s uncle James Patrick. Just a great Philly connection with this pick.

This young crop of new Flyers have connections, and even know some history about the team and City. That is what makes this young crop unique from other draft classes for the Flyers. How they will pan out remains to be seen, but it’s kind of neat nonetheless.
