A young 21-year-old Morgan Frost suited up on Monday night for the Flyers in a 6-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. He played solid hockey through the first two periods of play, as he created scoring chances by keeping his feet moving, and drew a penalty on his first shift of the game. All good things right!!!!

Former General Manager Ron Hextall and his scouts deserve a lot of kudos for this, as they drafted very well. There are not many teams in the NHL that have the depth the Flyers do in their farm system. Current Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher inherited a rich farm system, as he continues to pick up where Hextall left off. Here are the list of players below that were in the lineup Monday and Tuesday night’s from draft year’s 2014-present:

Carter Hart

Travis Sanheim

Travis Konecny

Morgan Frost

Nolan Patrick

Joel Farabee

Nicolas Aubé-Kubel

Oskar Lindblom

Ivan Provorov

Not listed is the young Philippe Myers. Myers was undrafted, and Hextall signed him as a free agent in September of 2015. Hextall just had the knack for signing and drafting young talent.

Sean Couturier is irreplaceable in the lineup for an extended period of time. However, I do believe the Flyers are built to withstand this type of adversity short-term. Frost is no Couturier, but his defensive side of the game improved dramatically as the season wore on last year. Unfortunately, Frost sustained an injury on this hit shown below and did not return to the game last night against the Sabres:

The news gets worse, as Philippe Myers also sustained an injury, and did not return to the game:

These are unfortunate injuries, but don’t worry Flyers fans help is on the way. Connor Bunnaman and Mark Friedman are waiting in the wings if they are called upon to fill in for a period of time. The Flyers continue to fight through adversity, and the youth is one reason why they are able to fight through this in a positive manner. Let’s hope that Myers and Frost are ok. We shall have an update later today on both players, as they are both scheduled for MRI’s today.
