After an upsetting loss to diminutive Boston Bruins, the Philadelphia Flyers find themselves in uncharted territory. They’re without six very key players and yet, still find themselves near the top of the division standings, with games in hand. In these scenarios, the initial instinct is always to panic, but this year the Flyers have bought themselves some space.

Without a perfect season, the Flyers never wavered and have found ways to gain points early on. With several key injuries early and two to three weeks of COVID complications, the team is still scoring and winning close games. In addition, the special teams have been an absolute mess at several stages of the early season and yet, this also has not stopped the Flyers from winning key games. If you exclude the four losses to the Boston Bruins, the Flyers would only have one loss in regulation and statistically would tell a different tale.

With all of these weird trends, its fair for most people to be hesitant to see it continue. However, it’s important to look at what this team is overcoming. That even without the perfect scenario, they still find a way to compete and win. Things have been improving and right before the COVID stoppage it was noticeable. Now with the recent success of Phantoms leading scorer Zayde Wisdom, we could see some additional talent join the big squad sooner than expected to help fill the void. Time will tell if the Flyers are as confident as Wisdom plays on the ice.

On this episode of Gettin Gritty Wit It, I welcome back guest Lance Green (@lngbassist39) on the show to talk about the Flyers’ recent COVID break and what they will need to do going forward to be successful.
