Joseph Woll made a standout performance—including a highlight-reel save—in his regular-season debut, helping the team earn a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on October 1, 2026.

The game at Prudential Center, Woll stopped 41 of 44 shots. The Flyers (coming off a 7-0 loss to the Penguins the night before) improved defensively and held a 2-1 lead in the third before the Devils forced OT. Early in the third, with the score tied 1-1, Woll robbed Jesper Bratt of a near-certain goal with a right-pad (described as “scorpion-like” or “crab leg”) save that kept the game close.
Rasmus Ristolainen and Travis Sanheim scored for Philadelphia; Luke Hughes tied it in the third, and Jack Hughes won it in overtime. Flyers’ Head Coach Rick Tocchet praised Woll as “outstanding” and “terrific,” noting the team battled harder but still allowed too many chances and spent excessive time in their own zone. Woll’s effort was widely credited with salvaging the single point.

Thiis was Woll’s first NHL start for the Flyers after being acquired (along with Simon Benoit) for Samuel Ersson, Emil Andrae, and a 2026 third-round pick. He is expected to form a tandem with primary starter Dan Vladar.
