Jett Luchanko (Flyers’ 2024 1st-round pick, 13th overall) underwent a core muscle procedure/surgery roughly a month ago (around early June 2026).

This addressed a lower-body/core issue that had been lingering for about 1–2 years (often described as a groin-related problem). He missed the on-ice portions of Developmental Camp (For a second straight year) because of it, but was expected to resume skating shortly afterward and be ready for Training Camp.
Context on his assignment/situation
- Luchanko has aged out of junior hockey (OHL) and is expected to compete for an NHL roster spot, but given his development path and the injury history, he is likely slated to start the 2026–27 season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Flyers’ AHL affiliate) for more consistent playing time and to continue building strength/pro-level experience.
- He has prior AHL experience with the Phantoms (including playoffs) and has split time between the Flyers, OHL teams (Guelph/Brantford), and the AHL in recent seasons.

This aligns with typical prospect handling for a young forward working through nagging injuries while transitioning fully to pro hockey. Flyers fans and media have noted communication around his injuries can be opaque, but the procedure appears to have resolved the long-term issue.
Hope the surgery gives him a clean bill of health going forward. Be patient with Luchanko, at least until December or January, core surgery is not easy to come back from right away. It’s going to take some time to get back to full health.
