Early in the 2026-27 season, Matvei Michkov has been taking some faceoffs and winning a solid percentage of them so far.
Here’s the recent picture:
- 2026-27 (early season, through 5 games: 63% success rate in limited draws, including 4-7 last night against Ottawa.
- Michkov actually looks comfortable at draws, while winning key initial draws with the man advantage. He won at least two against the great Claude Giroux last night.
Michkov is a left-shot right wing, not a natural center, so these are limited/situational draws (not heavy usage). His prior NHL faceoff numbers were mixed-to-poor:
- 2024-25: 19 FOW / 22 FOL (46.3%)
- 2025-26: just 1 FOW / 11 FOL (8.3%)
The early success this year is a small sample but stands out compared to last season. It’s something Flyers fans are tracking as a potential bonus skill, or maybe he plays Center in the future.
