David Jiříček’s performance against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, October 8, 2026 (a 1-2 loss) was his best game so far in a Flyers sweater.

Jiříček has a strong offensive IQ and playmaking (including a nifty between-the-legs pass that set up Tyson Foerster for a quality chance), solid defensive contributions (such as preventing an empty-netter), and positive underlying numbers. He logged about 18:25 of ice time, was second on the team in shot attempts with six, generated scoring chances, and the Flyers controlled play (shot attempts, shots, expected goals) while he was on the ice at 5-on-5. He also saw time on the top power-play unit and was involved in their better sequences, including Matvei Michkov’s goal.

It wasn’t a points night (0 goals, 0 assists, 2 shots), and the Flyers remained winless early in the 2026-27 season, but the game stood out positively compared to his prior outings with the club (including a limited role last spring after the trade from Minnesota and a more mixed start this season).

This was a clear step forward and the kind of showing the team hopes to see more of if he’s going to hold a regular lineup spot. The 22-year-old former 6th-overall pick (2022) is still developing consistency after stops in Columbus and Minnesota, but nights like thiat highlight the upside that led the Flyers to acquire him.
