In his end-of-season press availability (following the 2025-26 campaign), the Flyers GM explicitly called out the Center position as an area they want to upgrade, while emphasizing patience in the rebuild. He noted they won’t force a move just for the sake of it, but they’ll explore options if the right fit arises.

Context on the Flyers’ Center situation:

  • The team has young talent on the wings (Matvei Michkov, Travis Konecny, Tyson Foerster, Owen Tippett, Denver Barkey, and Porter Martone) but lacks a true top-line/elite 1C.
  • Briere has been open about this need for a while (e.g., comments earlier in 2025 about acquiring a star Center to play with Michkov).
  • They could potentially get by with strong 2C play in the short term, banking on elite Wingers, but the priority remains clear.

Offseason Outlook:

  • Free agency looks thin for impact centers. A potential target like Charlie Coyle is now off the board (re-signed with Columbus). ca.sports.yahoo.com
  • The realistic path for a big upgrade is likely via trade, with speculation around names like Robert Thomas (Blues), or others such as Matty Beniers, etc. Draft additions or internal development (prospects like Luchanko, etc.) will also play a role. dailyfaceoff.com

Briere’s approach has been measured — building the core through drafts, development, and smart additions rather than panic moves. Flyers fans have been vocal about wanting that 1C, and he’s acknowledging it without overpromising.
