Thanks to the Flyers playoff run the annual break between the previous season and the start of Dev Camp was much shorter this year. Lots of Flyers Fans were on hand as Development Camp 2026 got underway. Day One is usually focused on skating and Monday’s session was no exception. Many different drills involving everything from bungy cords to radar guns.

Something different about this year’s camp is the inclusion of players who have already made their NHL debut with the team. Porter Martone, Denver Barkey, Alex Bump, and Oliver Bonk all participated in the on ice sessions.

Draft with a capital “D”

This past Friday at the NHL Entry Draft the Flyers bulked up on the back end choosing two defensemen, two goalies, and a late round center.

With their top pick the team chose 6′-7″ 238 lb. Maksim Sokolovskii 27th overall in the 1st round. The Russian born left handed shutdown defenseman is currently with the OHL London Knights. He will turn 18 on July 12th. It may be quite some time before he is ready for the NHL. The organization is not looking to rush the process.

Flyers general manager Danny Briere said “He’s the type of player we want to have around on our team. Guys that are ultra competitive. Guys willing to go above and beyond and make life miserable on the opposite team“.

The Flyers second pick this year was Brek Liske, a 2nd generation Flyers Fan from Manitoba. His father has always been huge fan and he raised his son to be the same.

As a member of the Everett Silvertips Liske and his teammates won the WHL championship this past May. The right handed defenseman is known as a well rounded two-way player. He was picked by the Flyers 53rd overall in the 2nd round.

Familiar Faces

This is not the first Development Camp for many of the Flyers prospects. Some players are already quite familiar to the fanbase. The list includes Jack Nesbitt, Cole Knuble, Jack Murtagh, and Spencer Gill just to name a few. Also taking part in camp are members of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms as well as several “camp invites”.

Jett Luchanko is on the roster but did not skate with the team on opening day. He is dealing with a lower body injury. If you remember he was having trouble this time last year as well.
