Detroit, MI – A well-earned point for the orange & black. The Flyers after 20 minutes of play trailed Detroit 5-1 in Carter Hart’s return. Patrick Kane scored twice and netted the game-winner in the shootout. Despite the loss, a big game for Philadelphia showing the heart of this club that never quits. 

RECAP

A huge opening period for Detroit, they found the back of the net five times. Patrick Kane kicked things off for the Red Wings, snapping the rebound home past Hart at 4:30. Kane did it again several minutes later, Patrick Kane tapped in the rebound for his second at 8:16. Not even a minute later, Bobby Brink put the lone Flyers on the board a wrister under the glove of Reimer at the 9:00 mark. Daniel Sprong tipped in the Red Wings’ third tally, a power-play goal at 15:05. J.T. Compher tapped home the rebound in the crease to put Detroit up 4-1 just 33 seconds later at 15:38. The Ghost, Shayne Gostisbehere netted the fifth and final goal of the frame a wrister on the rebound at 19:42.

Philadelphia netted the only two goals in the period, following a momentum booster off of a Nick Seeler fight. Seeler received a controversial game misconduct due to instigating dropping the mitts with Christian Fischer. 36 seconds following the bout, Sean Couturier tipped a shoulder-high shot to bring the Flyers within three at 3:37. Frosty the Goalman, Morgan Frost made it a contest with another redirection in front of Reimer, 24 seconds later at 4:01.

Garnet Hathaway nearing the 6-minute mark of the third, yet another tip in front of the netminder at 5:51. An odd rebound that squeaked through Reimer’s pads was found on the backhand of Scott Laughton. Laughton’s 3rd of the season knotted things up at 13:30. Over a minute later the comeback kids took the lead, Owen Tippett sending the puck that barely squeezed through home, Tippett’s 12th of the season at 14:53. An unfortunate bounce for Hart, but very fortunate for Dylan Larkin who bounced a shot from below the goal-line off the back pad of Carter at 15:30.

So after 60 minutes of play more time was needed. Hart stopped ll 6 he faced in overtime, on the other end Reimer stopped the 4 he saw. In that, a shootout would be needed.

Opening round shooters Couturier and DeBrinct were both denied for their respective clubs. Lucas Raymond put Detroit ahead and Bobby Brink was denied in round two. Patrick Kane with the game on his stick took his time and wristed a shot past the glove of heart, to cap off the Red Wings 7-6 shootout win.
