Philadelphia, PA – Bleak Friday. Mika Zibanejad scores twice in Rangers 3-1 road win. Igor Shesterkin came up big with 36 saves between the pipes for New York. The Rangers have now won 6 of their last 7 games, Philadelphia is now on a two-game losing skid. New York sits at the top of the Metro with a record of (14-3-1). Philadelphia is in 4th place in the Metropolitan, a point behind Carolina and two ahead of the Islanders. Both clubs are in action tonight so it is subject to change before the Flyers play the Isles tomorrow.

A rough start for the boys in black. Just 45 seconds into the contest Flyers killer, Mika Zibanejad netted his 3rd of the season, a one-timed wrister that gave Hart no chance on the first shot of the contest. Just over a minute later Chris Kreider intercepted Sanheim’s feed, a bad pass right in front of Hart that gave Kreider his 11th of the season. The two goals coming in under the first two minutes of the hockey game would be the difference. Despite the score, the Flyers led shots 12-7. 

Each team netted a tally in the second. The first goal of the frame, Mika Zibanejad a one-handed poke on the 2-on-1 break with Wheeler. Zibanejad’s 18th career goal against Philadelphia came at the 7:41 mark. Sean Couturier put the Flyers on the board late in the frame. Couturier’s second-period tally came off the face-off draw in the offensive zone and he wristed it past Shesterkin at 17:39.

No goals in the third frame for either side. Igor came up huge, stopping all 14 Flyers shots he saw. Carter Hart didn’t have to do much at all in the period, except he would’ve given up a shorthanded tally had it not been called back. Hart stopped all 3 Rangers shots he faced in the frame. The Flyers battled but couldn’t get anything in the back of the net.

Carter Hart stopped 16 of the 19 shots he faced in the loss, and Igor Shestrkin’s phenomenal night in net stopped 36 of the 37 he faced in the Rangers’ road win.

Philadelphia was 0/6 on their power play chances. Had several chances, especially in the third period where they outshot the Rangers heavily.
