After a strong final season with Western Michigan of the NCAA, Wade Allison put pen to paper with the Flyers on March 27, 2020.

The Flyers selected Allison in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, and since then, he hasn’t disappointed. The only thing that has held him back were multiple injuries throughout his collegiate career.

After a great first freshman season with the Broncos, Allison flipped the switch and came out even better for his sophomore year. In 22 games, he scored 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 total points. Although, due to an ACL injury, his season was cut short. It was unfortunate because he was in many talks for the “Hobey Baker Award”, an award given to the top college performer. He was even considering turning pro with the Flyers. Moving on to his junior year, Wade had a rough season, as he wasn’t fully recovered from the knee injury. He only managed to put up eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 22 games. Now after his final season with WMU, Allison was able to play much better, putting up 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points in 26 games played. While posting close to point-per-game average, Allison suffered, yet again, another injury.

His final NCAA totals come to 45 goals and 52 assists for 97 points in 106 games. Allison served as an alternate captain for two seasons. Despite his injuries, he always came back strong. Throughout his college career, he was named to a few “NCHC Player of the Week” and was named to NCHC Academic All-Conference Team during this season.

Aside from Allison’s injuries, he has the potential to be a solid middle-six forward for the Flyers. He is an outstanding power forward, who throws the body and battles hard along the boards and in front of the net. Allison also has a quick wrist shot, but he is very good in front of the net at picking up the rebounds. On the playmaking side, he has shown some flashes of reading his teammates and setting them up for opportunities.

The chart above shows Allison’s shots on goal, missed shots(x), and goals scored. From what it shows, he is pretty well rounded all over the ice, and can shoot from many different places. Although, he is stronger in the slot area.

Solid hit off the faceoff.

Allison most likely will start the 2020-21 season with a young Lehigh Valley Phantoms team with new incoming prospects such as Wyatte Wylie, and Tanner Laczynski.
