E212 – Matvei Michkov Coming To The NHL Early!?

The Philadelphia Flyers fans received an exciting update on top prospect Matvei Michkov. It was originally the thought that it would be unlikely that Michkov would come to the NHL before the end of his three year deal with SKA Saint Petersburg in Russia. However, a translated report out of Russia states that chairman of SKA, Alexander Medvedev, would be open to allowing Michkov out of his agreement and to come over to the NHL as early as this summer. This is not final and the news should be taken with a grain of salt, but it is, at least, positive news that the elite prospect could join his NHL club earlier than everyone anticipated. Combine that with the tenuous relationship Michkov has with SKA coach, Roman Rotenberg, it seems even more likely that Michkov would want out early. Not only did Rottenberg choose to loan out Michkov to the struggling team in Sochi, even though he outplayed everyone in preseason, he also omitted him from the Russia 25 and under team at worlds. Right now it seems like what would be best for Michkov’s NHL feature to be with Flyers and get started on his career amongst the world’s best hockey players.

On this episode of Gettin’ Gritty Wit It, Yariv and Vasili get into the recent update on Matvei Michkov’s future, Sean Couturier changing agents, the offseason opportunities, the Phantoms playoff run, and the current NHL playoff outcomes. This is an exciting episode that could set off a very exciting Flyers offseason.
