E202 – Flyers Rebound, Stay Focused on Playoffs & Trade Deadline
The Flyers finally rebounded after a couple of tough loses during a crucial time of the season. After Auston Matthews put up a star performance and took over the game against the Flyers and a loss on the big stage in the Stadium Series against the Devils, the Flyers had to find a way to rebound that. While not playing their best brand of hockey, the team managed to shut down the red-hot Connor Bedard. It wasn’t the best performance the team could put forward, but good teams find a way to win against competition they should. While this win definitely helped turn the tides lead by Samuel Ersson and Travis Konecny, there is still the looming presence of the trade deadline inching closer everyday.
This is the first time I can remember, where the team has been this competitive and the team has been focused on trading away players rather than staying put or adding players at the deadline. It’s a tricky situation for any GM to handle, but the Flyers exceeding expectations has made it even harder. As the Flyers sit in a definite playoff position, they need to decide if they are going to keep all of the players that help get them there. Even though the team has the depth to withstand NHL roster losses, it’s an odd message to send to the team that has made its name by working their butt off to win. Will the likes of Sean Walker, Nick Seeler, Marc Staal, and Scott Laughton still be on this roster come post-trade deadline? Right now, the only thing to reveal those answers are time.
