E201 – Flyers Continue To Prove They Are Playoff Worthy
The Flyers are officially one of the hottest teams in the NHL once again. While there isn’t a direct line of site to a Stanley Cup, any criticism that was coming at the team after a 5 game win streak, then a 5 game losing streak, that seems to be left in the past. The Flyers have not lost a game since the All Star break and a playoff position is starting to look like the most likely scenario for the them. However, as success continues to reign, the question is, what does a rebuilding team do at the trade deadline? Rumors have been swirling around the internet about what the Flyers options are at the deadline and none of them include adding anything substantial.
Roster players such as Scott Laughton, Sean Walker, Rasmus Ristolainen, Marc Staal, and whispers of others have been making their rounds. Having said that, how does a team that has beaten the top ten ranked squads in the league and sit comfortably in third place in the Metro, justify losing talent as they enter the playoffs after several years. It does make sense considering the Flyers have all of the leverage in a trade and could end up walking away with very nice assets that could help bring a cup to Philadelphia sooner, but the message to the team does have to be considered. As arguably the hardest working team in the NHL, how do you take away key roster players when the team has worked so hard to make themselves a threat? Briere is in a tough spot, but one that if he plays correctly, could end up making him look like the best GM of the 2023-24 NHL season.
