The Philadelphia Flyers find themselves in a playoff race and this race is coming down to the wire. While the Flyers had a large point gap between them and the competition chasing them, some of that was only perception. The Flyers have consistently played more games early in the season than the teams chasing them and teams such as the Islanders, have majority of their games in the second half of the year. With a recent 6 game win streak, excluding the most recent loss to LA Kings, the Islanders are on fire and gaining position. Luckily for the Flyers the Detroit Red Wings are on a six game losing streak to balance it out.

The team is also rebounding from their worst loss of the season to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 7-0, that saw several players get bumps and bruises, as well as, coach John Tortorella getting a two game suspension for refusing to leave the bench after getting ejected. Even with the setback, the Flyers did manage to redound with an important win against the San Jose Sharks at home. A game where the Flyers didn’t play their best hockey, but managed to step up when it counted. With the Flyers tough upcoming schedule, this win was crucial to keep their third place position in the Metro division. If the Flyers want to make the playoffs this year, they’ll have to play their best hockey of the season. Let’s hope they’re up for it.
