E200 – Flyers Beat Another Top 10 Team
The Flyers went into the NHL All Star break spiraling from a five game win streak, and right into a five game losing streak. However, the prolonged break is exactly what the team needed. As seen by the Flyers solid performance and victory against one of the best teams in the NHL, in the Florida Panthers. The Flyers might have started the game slowly, as everyone was concerned that the mojo that brought them to third place in the division was failing. However the Flyers elevated their game in the second half to take a 2-1 lead and shut down one of the most potent offenses in the NHL. Luckily for the Flyers, rookie goaltender, Sam Errson played an exceptional first period, stabilizing the team from going down severely early in the game. This gave the team plenty of time to regroup and fight their way back into their winning ways.
With the recent news of Carter Hart’s legal issues, Sam Ersson has become a pivotal member of this team moving forward. He has had a very strong start to his NHL career, but now that needs to be elevated in a full starting role as the team’s loan top tier goaltender at the pro level. Even though there will be help coming in the future, with Alexi Kolosov nearing his pro career, Ersson is the most practical and logical choice to be the starter for the next several years as it stands today. With an evolving roster in the pieces at all positions to improve the squad, this team is definitely proving the saying correct that depth wins championships.
