This eight game losing streak has been a nightmare for the Flyers and their proud faithful. It’s been anything but blissful, and it’s sort of takes away all the goodness of the season.
the Flyers are a bunch of overachievers this season, in a sense, they weren’t supposed to be competing for a playoff spot, rather they were supposed to be bottom feeders in the NHL according to many pundits before the season began.
There are many reasons for this a game losing streak. The Flyers could point to the power play, or coaching staff. However, Flyers Goaltendng has been abysmal through the eight game losing streak and the defense, as well. They’re just way too many turnovers, coverage breakdowns, too many odd man rushes. This wasn’t happening throughout the course of the season until this losing streak, fatigue could be a problem in these particular areas. The Gap control hasn’t been good, but neither has the Flyers Goaltending.

Moreover, Flyers Goaltenders have a combined 5.25 GAA, with a .791 Save Percentage during the losing streak. Of course, it’s not just the Goaltending’s fault, but Goaltending was carrying the Flyers earlier in this season.
Flyers goaltenders in particular are just not making the timely saves and momentum saves that they were making earlier in the season. This is part of the collapse of the orange and black, they were mainly carried by excellent goaltending throughout the course of the season, and now the wheels are falling off a bit in that area. One can make a case that Flyers goaltending was so good, they made up for many mistakes on the ice earlier in the season the forwards and defensemen. Some bad habits are rearing their ugly heads, and it’s noticeable in the standings. Some of those bad habits are brutal turnovers throughout the neutral zone, and opponents are skating at ease throughout the neutral zone alike.

If the Flyers want to keep their faint playoff hopes alive, they have to start playing better defensively, and that does go for Goaltenders’ alike. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it, the Flyers are having trouble scoring goals, so the only way to give them a shot at winning is by playing well defensively. This means defensively, collectively as a unit.
No one, not one single player gets a pass for this eight game losing streak. However, if the Flyers want to try to right the ship, they have to be better Defensively and Goaltending wise, to even stand a fighting shot at claiming one of the final playoff spots.
