The Flyers inked a versatile forward, and one that can play both center and wing to a three year entry-level-contract in Jon Randall-Avon. Hold on Flyers fans, pause for a minute. I know what some are thinking!!! Who in the world is that?

Well, Randall-Avon was on a tryout with the Flyers through developmental camp and rookie camp alike. Randall-Avon is one heck of a skater, and he makes edge cuts with the best of them. He plays for the Peterborough Petes in the OHL, to which their season was cancelled last year.

Randall-Avon put forth a good rookie camp, as he stated, “My goal is to sign a contract with the Flyers out of camp.”

This young 18-year-old in Randall-Avon tallied four goals, and registered seven assists in 56 games played in 2019-20 for the Petes, before the season was halted due to the Coronavirus. He did manage to suit up for Team Canada in the WHC-17 tournament, to which he did not register a point in sux games played.

He really is just cracking the ceiling now. Randall-Avon stands at 5’11 and weighs 174 pounds. He is a good board battled, as well, but his acceleration is what sets him apart from a lot of prospects. You can never count out this young man on a play, as he rarely gets beat the other way due his excellent skating abilities.

it is rare to be a good skater given his age. Usually most prospects can improve upon this area, but Randall-Avon is already there with his skating abilities. Now he just needs to put on more muscle, and use his talent to his advantage. Randall-Avon usually sees the ice well, and is a good two-way player.

“It’s been an amazing experience,” Avon said of Flyers Rookie Camp. “A lot of the older guys have been taking me under their wing, the coaches have been great. Really everything has been awesome so far.”

This is a good depth signing at the center position for the Flyers, low risk-high reward. The Flyets will now have two Peterborough Petes playing in the OHL this coming season, as 4th round selection Brian Zanetti also plays for the Petes.

For Randall-Avon he is just scratching the surface in his hockey career, and it started off with a bang with inking this three-year contract with the Flyers.
