The Flyers took on the Washington Capitals in front of their home fans last night at the Wells Fargo Center. Brian Elliott was back in net, but the Flyers did little to help him.

Travis Konecny scored on his birthday

Well one good thing came from this game, the birthday boy Travis Konecny scored on his 24th birthday. The big goal came on the Power Play and was Konecny’s 7th of the year. Happy birthday TK! “Eat up, Bud!”

Better Power Play

The Flyers took advantage of their power play opportunities tonight as they scored two goals with the man advantage. One goal coming from Travis Konecny, as mentioned earlier. Also a goal from Ivan Provorov, giving him his third on the year. Hopefully this is a good sign of things to come for a Power Play than needed to get going.

Defensive Breakdowns and Turnovers

When are the Flyers going to play a complete 60 minutes. In the first period there were breakdowns and turnovers that lead to goals, hence trailing two to one after one. Kevin Hayes although Italy to assist, is not the same player as he was a month ago. He’s making no look drop passes to no one, Provorov is struggling, Travis Sanheim didn’t take the body on the third goal, Erik Gustafsson continues to turn the puck over. These are combinations for a loss.

I don’t care who the player is if they are wide open in the slot, nine times out of 10 that player is going to tally a goal, and that is what happened on multiple occasions last night. This has been happening all year, but the Flyers have been getting away with it as they were winning games. Their old bad habits calls them to lose this particular game to the Capitals 5-3.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it
