The Philadelphia Flyers came in to the game Wednesday night hoping to hope to keep their momentum going after their beautiful comeback win against the Sabres just two night’s days ago. Unfortunately, the Buffalo Sabres were too good offensively, and the Flyers defense looked out of sorts from beginning to end and the Flyers ended up losing 6-1.

Just 9:32 in to the opening period, the Sabres got on the board first with a snap shot goal by Sam Reinhart (assisted  by Kyle Okposo and Rasmus Ristolainen) that hit inside Flyers Justin Braun’s left knee and deflected in to the goal for a 1-0 Sabres lead.

A little over two minutes later, the Sabres got another opportunity to take a 2-0 lead and they embraced it with an open wrist shot goal by Curtis Lazar (assisted by Riley Sheahan) that cruised passed Brain Elliott to make the score 2-0.

Finally the Flyers saw some life just 3:50 into the second period, as Ivan Provorov blasted a snap shot that deflected off Brandon Montour and landed into the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.

With 10:28 left in the second period, the Sabres got another opportunity to get a goal which they capitalized it as Steven Fogarty elevated a spinning puck into the goal to make it a 3-1 Buffalo lead.

The Sabres got another goal with less than five minutes to go in the period as Casey Mittelstadt shot a wrist shot which went through Brian Elliott’s legs for a score of 4-1.

Alex Lyon then replaced Elliott, and he made two good saves after he got on the ice. Carter Hart of course is taking a couple of games off to clear his head, and to work on things.

With less than six minutes left to play in regulation, the Sabres collected another goal by Brandon Montour on an empty net to make the score 5-1.

With 4:30 left in the third period, the Sabres banged in a short-handed goal by Montour to make the final score 6-1.

The Flyers are now 17-14-4 on the season after a disappointing effort, “Everybody needs to bring their “A” game every night, and it seems we have some guys on and some guys off,” a leader in Sean Couturier said following the loss as he called out the team, “It’s tough to win that way. As professionals, you have to find your game every night.”

Unfortunately, the Flyers finished the month of March with a 6-10-1 record, and they allowed the most goals in franchise in a single month with 75. This is not a recipe for success by any means.

NEXT UP: The Flyers are now off for two days before getting back to business against a very good 22-10-4 New York Islanders team on Saturday, April 3rd at 7 PM EST. The game can be seen on ESPN+ and NBC Sports Philadelphia.Â
