The Flyers are planned to get a new shared arena targeted to open in 2030.
The new multi-purpose arena (not yet formally named; Comcast holds the naming rights) will be built on the former Spectrum site in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. It is a 50/50 joint venture between Comcast Spectacor (Flyers owner) and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (76ers owner). It will also serve as the home for the Philadelphia 76ers and a new WNBA expansion team.

- Timeline: Targeted to open in 2030 (ahead of the WNBA team’s inaugural season and in time for the NBA and NHL seasons). Construction is expected to take roughly three years, with groundbreaking hoped for in early 2027 pending approvals. The current home, Xfinity Mobile Arena (formerly Wells Fargo Center), is expected to be demolished afterward.
- Design and features: Exterior renderings were unveiled on September 8, 2026. The design draws inspiration from the old Spectrum (with stacked, cantilevered bands) while incorporating modern elements, outdoor fan plazas (over half an acre), food/beverage options, and a staircase inspired by the Philadelphia Museum of Art (“Rocky” steps). Design firms include Populous and Moody Nolan.
- Funding and impact: It is described as Philadelphia’s largest fully privately funded project. Projections include nearly 15,000 jobs and nearly $6 billion in economic activity over 10 years, plus significant tax revenue for the city and school district.
Plans originated in early 2025 after the 76ers dropped a separate Center City proposal and partnered with the Flyers’ ownership. The exact Spectrum site was confirmed in April 2026, and the timeline was accelerated to align with the WNBA debut. As of the latest updates (September 2026), the project is advancing with designs, construction partners (including Turner/AECOM Hunt), and ongoing community engagement, though final regulatory approvals are still needed.
