As everyone knows by now, the Flyers have been struggling a lot recently-offensively, defensively, and even with goaltending. Most fans are focusing on the negatives these days, but I think we should stop and take a look at the positives of this team for once.
I have to begin by mentioning Carter Hart. At 22-years-old, he has been outstanding for the Flyers. We all saw how professionally Hart handles himself when under pressure, and how easily he can pull himself back together when struggling. Some fans have already begun to give up on him, but some bad games from a very young starting goaltender is nothing to worry about. Considering how remarkable he is now, he has so much potential and will only get better.
One of my favorite players to watch currently is Joel Farabee. Having been a huge fan of him since the Flyers signed him and being at his first NHL game, it is amazing to see how he has improved since the beginning of his career in Philadelphia. Already having 30 points this season (15 goals, 15 assists), Farabee has most definitely surpassed my expectations of him, and I am sure other fans’ too.
Looking at the Flyers defense, there are some players who will continue to improve throughout their careers. Especially young defensemen Travis Sanheim and Philippe Myers. Although, both have been struggling at times this season, I have no doubt in my mind that both of them will be fantastic defensemen.
The Flyers also recently signed defenseman Cam York to a three-year Entry-Level-Contract (ELC). York had four goals and sixteen assists this season with his college team at the University of Michigan, and was Captain of Team USA, who won gold in the 2021 World Junior Championship. He is another bright spot for the Flyers. Although, he is not ready for the NHL yet, it is great to know we have such a great defenseman coming in the future.
A common theme of mine is to not let these slumps determine the future of the team. Things may not be going great this season, but you cannot expect everything to be amazing all the time. This current Flyers team is nowhere near being done. I am excited to see what the future will bring for this young Flyers team.
