Joel Farabee loves Philadelphia, or he used to anyways as he was on record saying that he wanted to be a Flyer for his entire career. This lead to him signing a brand new 6-year deal worth $30 million ($5 million AAV) this past offseason.
Unfortunately, Farabee has been plagued with bad play, mainly all season long as he returned/recovered from offseason neck/back surgery. His inconsistent play was supposed to be expected this season, as he did not get to properly train like he usually does, also one can make the case he returned a bit sooner than expected, as well. Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella recently stated that Farabee cannot hide under his injury, in regards to his inconsistent play. Tortorella even benched him on Monday afternoon in Calgary, Alberta as he only played 3:52. His minutes have been decreasing each game as the season has wore on, to which it’s understandable since he’s not performing.
Farabee’s camp thinks differently, and today a comment surfaced from a credible reporter Frank Seravalli:
“Farabee’s camp has voiced their displeasure to the Flyers as to how this season has unfolded under coach John Tortorella.” – Frank Seravalli
It would be a massive shock to me if Farabee was indeed traded between now and March 3, 2023 at the trade deadline. However, anything is possible, and Farabee now ranks number 20 on Seravalli ‘s big board of a trade. Is scoring output is down this season dramatically, has he potted 20 goals in a Covid shortened season in 2020-21. To date, Farabee has only potted nine goals, and 17 assists for 26 points this season.
With all this being said, hopefully the two sides can come to resolution and figure things out before it’s too late. Farabee has a World of talent, and one has to believe that he will have a strong 20+ goal season in 2023-24.
