Portland, ME – The Royals are victorious. For the first time on the road this season, Reading has come out on top. The final score of the tilt in Portland was Royals 4 and Mariners 3. Reading has picked up their 4th win of the season keeping them ahead of Maine in the North Division. Butcher and Brown each netted two goals, and Yvan Mongo picked up two apples in the win.

RECAP 

Advantage Reading after 20 minutes of play. Despite shots being 11-7 in favor of Maine, the Royals led 1-0. Matt Brown netted the lone tally. He showed off his unstoppable speed and stick handling to put Reading up at 17:09.

An eventful second frame-up at Cross Insurance Arena. Ethan Ritchie kicked things off with the first of his pro career. Ritchie potted home the rebound at the 8:10 mark. Matt Brown put the Royals back on top with his second of the contest. Brown’s goal came at the 13:19 mark of the second. Gabe Guertler knotted things back up for the Mariners. Guertler’s first of the season, a one-timer that went five-hole at 16:42.

Alec Butcher put Reading back on top, his third of the season pushing the puck in the crease past the goal line at 4:56. Alec Butcher extended the Royals lead with another rebound in the crease, this one coming at 11:47. Gabriel Chicone capped off the night, a bad rebound on a Maier that was in the splits at 12:51. Maine threatened late but couldn’t find the back of the net, Reading held on for their first road win of the season, a 4-3 finish.

Nolan Maier with a stupendous night between the pipes. Maier made 31 saves on 34 shots in the victory. Shane Starrett stopped 21 of the 25 Reading shots he faced for Maine. 

Reading and Maine cap off the two-game set tomorrow night in Portland, puck drop set for 6 p.m. Reading then heads back home they host the Kalamazoo Wings next Thursday & Saturday Night at Santander Arena.
