Expectations have been exceeded by the current players available for the Philadelphia Flyers. The fanbase has spiraled into a panic that has left only portions of them happy and many of the numb. As the team sits outside of a top draft pick options and outside of a playoff position, the weeds of mediocrity have begun to sprout. Currently, it is difficult to know whether the team is headed in the right direction or headed nowhere fast.

As a good rule of thumb to analyze the success of the team, is to go by who is leading the charge. Players like Morgan Frost, Owen Tippett, Noah Cates, Cam York, Travis Konecny, Ivan Provorov, Carter Hart and many others have all had successful season while learning to lead. While others continue to improve as the season continues, more young players will continue to step forward. It’s easy to look at the shiny toys and think that is the only path to make your toy collection awesome, but it takes a collection of great toys to make the new shiny toy the icing on the cake. Otherwise it stands on its own and gets worn down from use. It is incredibly necessary that the Flyers amass a team worth adding to. despite the wide negative outlook of the Flyers farm team, there is talent coming and some high end talent as well. Names like Cutter Gauthier, Bobby Brink, Tyson Forester, Elliot Desnoyers, Samuel Errson, and Emil Andre are all waiting in the wings to make their NHL careers. And for them to be effective, they must have a strong supporting cast to do so successfully. Elite players are rarely drafted, they’re developed by the teams that draft them.

On this episode of Gettin Gritty Wit It, Yariv and Vasili take a long look at where the Flyers are as they continue to hang in close to games, but fall short of turning their playoff fates around. With the trade deadline looming it’s time to have the honest conversations of what steps remain to set the Flyers up for success.

  1. You are out of your mind. Great, they exceeded a pathetic record to come in less than pathetic. Nothing gets fixed nothing gets done. Perfect, another decade of trash. All I know is the so called youth is not really young in this league and proved they are not long term answers either. Good luck next year is a half full building. We set the bar so low they climbed it. Embarrassing
