After suffering three straight losses, to include a shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on the Western Canadian road swing. Some Flyers fans are left with the same old thoughts: Trade Claude Giroux, Trade Jakub Voracek, Trade Shayne Gostisbehere, Call-up NAK, Call-up Joel Farabee, Stewart? You mean Stewie is playing again??? One move that I personally have not yet seen any Flyers fan ask for is to call-up Philippe Myers from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Relax Flyers fans, there is no cause to panic, JUST YET!!! The Flyers will not make excuses for their poor play as of late. They got behind the eight ball in the last three games, as it took some time for the players to find their legs throughout the game. Playing in three different parts of the world, and over 14,000+ miles traveled in a five game span will do it for them. The schedule makers of the NHL did the Flyers no justice in the early part of the season.

I’m not making excuses here, but looking at this brutal schedule, the orange and black played in Europe, the United States, and Western Canada in five games. Talk about jet lag, getting used to different time zones, and then having to readjust to the Philly time zone for Saturday’s upcoming tilt against the Dallas Stars. It’s not an easy task. The experienced coaching staff has done their best to have this team prepared with playing over 14,000+ miles worldwide in just five games. They know the team needs rest, but the Flyers also need to practice, as well. It’s a lot tougher than some people think.

Unfortunately, the Flyers have gotten off to a slower start in the last three games, than they did in the previous first two games of the season. It made it seem like it was last year’s Flyers team all over again for most fans, and myself at times. However, it was to be expected with the heavy dose of travel, to include a back to back. What is really striking is that the Flyers are making no excuses for themselves.

After all, the Flyers have a record of 2-2-1. This really isn’t a bad start by any means, considering the totality of all the circumstances involved throughout the first five games of the young season. The Flyers outshot the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night 52-22, 52 darn shots on net. Of course, the players made no excuses for themselves following the game. Give it 25 games Flyers fans before coming to a conclusion on this team. After all, this is a brand new coaching staff with a new system, crazy travel in the early going, and a new look locker room of voices.

Changes will be made if the Flyers continue their free fall, trust me Flyers fans. Alain Vigneault will not tolerate anything less than full effort. Better days are ahead Flyers fans, and it starts on Saturday night in a 7pm tilt against the Dallas Stars.

  1. I agree 100%! The NHL put the wood to the Flyers with this schedule and I think once they are able to re-acclimate themselves and regain their legs, I truly believe they will settle in and have a really good season! Nice work Jamey…
