It’s been a whirlwind year thus far for the Flyers and their proud faithful. From a 10 game losing streak, to a pretty good January, to a not so good February. It’s easy to say it’s been up and down, however, the Flyers have remained pretty competitive for the most part thus far, thanks in large part to the good coaching of John Tortorella and his staff. The Flyers are in a selling mode now as General Manager Chuck Fletcher said today, “We are selling,” in his Pre-Trade Deadline Presser with the media. Without further delay here are the notes to his presser:

  1. “Cates, Tippett, and Frost have established themselves as NHL’ers. The goal next year is to see who the next two are to establish themselves.”
  2. “We are looking for picks and prospects. Some combination of both that will be great.”
  3. “We’re selling. We have been pretty clear about all year. Some of these injuries have afforded a runway for the young players. A few days ago we had the seventh youngest roster in the NHL. We have developed a flyer identity of being a harder team to play against.”
  4. “The most calls have been on the expiring contracts, or rentals if you be. The primary focus right now will be on expiring contracts.”
  5. They are the fifth most improved team this season.
  6. “We need high-end talent.”
  7. “We all understand where we are at.”
  8. They are defensively improved for the most part.
  9. The Flyers are searching for more draft capital and prospects this trade deadline.

Whatever the case maybe, it has been made clear that most expiring contracts will be moved for draft capital and prospects when the trade deadline commences on Friday.
