Another trade deadline came and went today for the Flyers. Erik Gustafsson has a new home in Montreal, while Michael Raffl has a new home in Washington D.C. with the Washington Capitals. Scott Laughton also re-signed to a favorable contract of 5 years-$15 million, worth an AAV of $3 million per season. Here are some notes from Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher’s post trade deadline presser.

  1. Fletcher says Tanner Laczynski will see a lot of games in the stretch run due to Michael Raffl being traded.
  2. No changes to the coaching staff this season, or in the offseason.
  3. Chuck Fletcher gives us a guarantee for next season sort of speak. He vows they will be in a different situation this time next season.
  4. Fletcher did hint that the defense will be shored up in the offseason.
  5. Fletcher confirms that Raffl played hurt throughout a lot of the season.
  6. Fletcher on Scott Laughton, “Those types of players are hard to find. The prospect of opening another hole wasn’t appealing to me.”
  7. Fletcher indicates that it was up in the air to re-sign or trade Laughton earlier today. Says there was lots of interest in him.
  8. “We’re still in the fight.”- Chuck Fletcher on the 2021 Flyers.

The Flyers are 19-16-6 and are tied with the New York Rangers with 44 points (Four points out of the last playoff spot to the Boston Bruins). What will transpire for the rest of the season is anyone’s guess, however, the youth will play according to Fletcher, that much we do know.

  1. This is why Fletcher sucks! He still thinks we are in the hunt…. hunt for mediocrity possibly but that’s our ceiling right now. He absolutely blows and we just confirmed it today.

  2. Fletcher has turned the Flyers into diet vanilla ice cream. Looks good, doesn’t really taste like real vanilla, but let’s face it, it is low fat vanilla. I’d like some of that “Tampa” banana split, please.
