With 10 games left in the 2021-2022 NHL Regular season things have not turned out as initially expected for the Philadelphia Flyers. The team had very high expectations both internally and externally heading into the season to return to the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, due to a myriad of injuries and poor play the Flyers will not be a playoff team or even close to it. Instead, the franchise will likely be selecting in the top 5 of the NHL Entry Draft later in the year.

If there’s one word to describe the Flyers season it would be disappointing. As with the talent on the roster their performances have been severely lacking. The positive going into next season is it appears as though there will be a look to the future in terms of the roster. It seems like the majority of the team’s veterans aside from Sean Couturier, Kevin Hayes, Scott Laughton and Ryan Ellis will not be back. What this cements is the Flyers will likely be one of the youngest teams in the NHL going into next season. With that being the case there will be an emphasis on what the team’s young players can contribute and bring to the table. Along with this, a top 5 draft pick will also be added to the team’s stable of young players who are looking to make a mark and a positive difference moving forward into next season.

The most interesting aspect of the off-season going into the 2022-2023 season will be what additions Chuck Fletcher looks to make to surround these young players. As well as, the calibre of players brought in through either free agent signings or trades. Unless enough cap space is opened up to bring in a real game breaking type of player Fletcher may need to be very creative with the moves he decides to make this upcoming off-season.
