Flyers Home Ice

The Flyers are 5-1 and their last six games and playing some really good hockey at the moment. Even with the loss last night against the New York Islanders the Flyers should not be discouraged. They went down fighting and clawed their way back into the game with persistence. Without further delay, here are our answers to your questions.

Tyson Foerster is starting to come out of his scoring slump. The thing about Tyson he’s a goal scorer, goal scorers are streaky. Hopefully, his recent goal helps him get out of that funk offensively. His defense has been phenomenal, so that’s a plus. James van Riemsdyk was a goal scorer too, and was very streaky, but when he got hot there weren’t too many players that could slow him down scoring wise.

Torts says he has “Done the hard part.” “He’s played good. Strength of the puck, puck battles. Things that I thought we would have to spend time teaching,” Tortorella said. “The biggest strength of his game is scoring goals, we can’t teach him that, hopefully this will help him get rolling that way.”

If this team continues to win, and maintain a playoff spot at the trade deadline, do not be surprised if one of Sean Walker is re-signed. Some of the players that some have pegged to get traded, may actually not get traded with the likes of Sean Walker (Expiring Contract), Cam Atkinson, Marc Staal (Expiring Contract), and Nick Seeler (Expiring Contract).

Maybe young players like Felix Sandström (Expiring Contract), Egor Zamula (Expiring Contract RFA Status), and Morgan Frost stay with the organization, at least until the offseason. Now I’m not saying any of those three will or will not get traded, but the Flyers may rethink their moves.

Sean Walker and Nick Seeler have been really good additions to the lineup. Seeler is well liked in the locker room, so the Flyers have to be very careful with trading a player like that for off-ice purposes. Maybe they do not want to rock the boat, locker room wise, since it is much better this season as Tortorella told us a few weeks ago.

Seeler blocks a ton of shots, and does not shy away from such. It’s an art that cannot be taught. Walker has been one of the best additions to the lineup from this past offseason. Is he playing over his head? Maybe, who knows, but he’s playing well. In Walker’s revenge game against his old club the Los Angeles Kings he finished with 22:53 of ice time, two assists, two hits, three shots on net, and two blocked shots.

I think it’s likely that both Walker and Seeler re-sign before the trade deadline commences, especially if the Flyers continue to win hockey games. However, in the event the Flyers are out of the playoff race by the time the trade deadline commences, then both players would be good trade chips for assets.

A successful Flyers season is a team that provides effort on a nightly and daily basis. One that has fun on and off the ice, with the hopes of establishing an identity for the future. This is maintained by being a playoff bubble team, and hopefully at the very least a wild card spot. All they have to do is get in to the playoffs, anything can happen. If the Flyers were going to make the playoffs, it would be great experience for the youth, and it would give Carter Hart more taste of a playoff atmosphere.

I want to see growth with Morgan Frost, Tyson Foerster, Egor Zamula, Travis Sanheim, Cam York, Noah Cates, and Joel Farabee. Hopefully, these players continue to excel as a season where is on. Frost has been up and down this season, mainly due to benchings, but hopefully he finds his way here. This season is about giving experience for the youth, so winning is important. I agree with John Tortorella they have to know how to win they have to think that they can win any game. Tanking is not an option, nor is it good to grow the game of young players. A good flyer season is a playoff bubble team/playoff team. One should not expect this team to contend, but making the playoffs would provide excellent experience for this team moving forward. A foundation is being built.

Marc Staal will sit from time to time. He has only suited up in four games with the Flyers this season due to injury, but he will not be an everyday player. Rasmus Ristolainen on the other hand will be. Some could argue that Ristolainen was the Flyers most consistent defensemen for the Flyers last season. He is getting healthier and healthier, and he is cleared for contact. To recap: Ristolainen will be an every day defenseman when he returns, Staal will not. Staal will be interchanged in the lineup between Zamula and Louie Belpedio at the moment.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and every single Flyers fan throughout the world. I really appreciate all the support.
