After a solid opening to the the early 2021 season, and winning the first two games against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flyers suffer a huge loss to the Buffalo Sabres 6-1. Not much to praise about tonight as we saw a flat Philadelphia Flyers team, but let’s get into it.

Tough First period

Coming off two well played games against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Philadelphia Flyers came out flat in the first period. Buffalo forced the flyers into turnovers and certainly got their shots on Carter Hart early. Which ended up resulting in a goal from the Sabres to lead 1-0 after the first period. Flyers were out shot 11 to 4 early on, and out hit 15-4 in the first period. Too much turning the puck over in the defensive zone will not help the Flyers get a lot of wins against good teams this season.

Same play; Different period

Welp, the Flyers didn’t seem to change much play going into the 2nd period, as they allowed a few more goals. One goal being scored on a questionable tripping call from Carter Hart (Power Play goal), and an even strength goal. Both scored by Sam Reinhart. All that being said, Carter Hart eventually gets pulled with 11:51 left in the second period after allowing four goals. Tough outing for Hart and the Flyers. Buffalo came ready to play, and the Flyers did not.

“Coots, There it is”

The injury to Sean Couturier Friday against the Penguins forced the Flyers to switch up the lines, and bring up the young 21-year-old in Morgan Frost to fill in such a huge void on this team. Losing “Coots” is a huge loss defensively, and all around. The team certainly struggled without him tonight. The Flyers will be with out him for potentially another five-seven games minimum, as “Coots” was given a two week healing time line. Wether they shuffle the lines for the rematch tomorrow night, or continue with the same, the flyers will have to learn to play more proficiently without one of their best players for a little longer.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it
